We went through the FEC database to see if the Cherokee Nation has ever given money to Elizabeth Warren. They have not and it does not make sense. If a high profile politician like Elizabeth Warren was truly Cherokee then the Cherokee Nation would most likely support her. The fact that the Cherokee Nation recently blasted her DNA claims as “inappropriate and wrong”, may be why they are not running to the bank to give her money.
Democrats and Republicans are neck and neck in spending. Over the last month and change, Republicans have spent 28.7 million and Democrats have spent $28.8 million. Out of the more than 500 candidates/PAC we looked at, 256 Republican PACs spent $29 million and 250 Democratic PACs also spent approx. $29 million.
What do you get when you combined a white guy born in 1957 and $1.6 billion dollars? A super-rich entitled white old man. Somebody should tell Tom Steyer to look in the mirror because he is that guy. However despite being that guy, he recently complained that “very rich entitled white men wanted to tell the rest of the Country we are going to have our way.
The law firm Perkins Coie is back in the news acting dodgy. Fox News and others reported that Michael Sussmann (Perkins Coie lawyer) provided documents as well as computer storage devices on Russian hacking to the FBI. The DNC and the Clinton campaign also used Perkins Coie to hire Fusion GPS.
Beto O’Rourke is the clear ActBlue winner. ActBlue takes in donations and then distributes the money to the different candidates, making it very difficult to know who is actually donating the money. ActBlue gave Beto O’Rourke of Texas $5.3 million. Beto actually received more money through ActBlue than the Democratic Congressional ($4.4 million) and Senatorial ($1.5 million) Campaign Committees and the Democratic National Committee ($1.6 million). That is saying a lot.
Will medical marijuana make it into Mormon Country? Not if a couple of old men get their way. 314 people have donated to Utah Patients Coalition (pro-medical marijuana) and only 18 people have donated to Drug Safe Utah (anti-medical marijuana). Now in most elections you have major donors like the Koch Brothers on one side and Soros on the other. However, usually the total number of donors is similar on both sides.
Now there has recently been a lot of hypocrisy around Judge Kavanaugh’s high school and college drinking. So we looked into how much campaigns have spent on alcohol in the last 8 years. We found that since 2011, political candidates have spent almost $2.5 million of donations on alcohol. We know that this number is low as we only screened for establishments with Bar, Pub, Wine, Beer etc… in their name. Obviously you do not need “Bar” in your restaurant’s name to serve alcohol.
Last October, Senator Jeff Flake announced that he will not seek reelection. If he is not trying to get reelected, then why is he still spending campaign funds? Yes, since the beginning of 2018 Flake has spent $141 thousand worth of donations. Flake announced his retirement late last October so we put in a buffer of two months so that pre-announcement expenses could be reported. We are only looking at expenses from January 2018.
