Emily’s List is a PAC with the mission to elect pro-choice Democratic women to office. We looked into Emily’s List because they consistently pop onto our spending reports. It appears that if you work at Emily’s List, you basically can expense anything. We also looked into their salaries and found that most people at Emily’s List do not make a lot of money. Approx. 70% of Emily’s List employees make below $60 thousand a year and almost half of them make less than $40 thousand a year.
We continue our search to find a company more liberal than Google. If you remember, 96% of Google employee’s political donations went to Democratic candidates. We have come very close with Apple and Facebook. Since 2015, 94% of Apple employee donations went to the Democrats. Apple employees donated $6.1 million to Democrats and only $429 thousand to Republicans. Also since 2015, Facebook employees donated $4.1 million to Democratic candidates and only $231 thousand to Republicans.
After finding out that Google’s political donations are 96% to the Democrats, we have been looking at other high profile companies to get an idea of their political makeup. Interestingly we found that Goldman Sachs and Walmart have very similar donation profiles. Since 2015, 68% of Goldman’s employee donations went to the Democrats and 32% went to the Republicans. At Walmart, 69% of donations went to Democrats while 31% went to Republicans.
As you may have heard, it was recently leaked that Google employees discussed suppressing conservative news sites after the 2016 Election. We do not know if they actual did suppress conservative views, but what we do know is that the majority of Google employees are Democrat. If there are Republicans at Google, most are clearly hiding that fact.
We all know that Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez won the 14th district in New York, so why did she spend so much time and money outside of the Bronx/Queens. Now according to the Federal Election Committee, “Campaign funds may be used to pay the costs of travel to an activity that is related to the campaign". So if funds can only be used for activities related to the campaign, why did she expense her stay at a hotel in Wichita, Kansas. Yes, Cortez spent $614 in Kansas. How did that help her campaign?
One of the first things new candidates do is start a PAC. Because without a lot of money there is no way they are getting to Washington. Since the recent midterm elections, 4 candidates have started new Presidential PACs. None of them have yet to report in contributions, but there is plenty of time to ask for money.
In key smaller state elections, Democrats paid approx. 30% more for each vote they received. However, it is clear that both parties paid way too much for each vote. We all know that a lot of money was thrown around this election. However, when you break it down by the number of votes received you see how much the super-rich in other states are meddling in smaller states elections.
