Top Democrats raised almost twice as much money as Republicans in the last month. Over the last month, 14 Democrats raised over $100 thousand, while only 7 Republicans raised more than that amount. The 14 Democrats raised $4.5 million, compared to the 7 Republicans that only raised $2.6 million. James Thompson in Kansas raised the most bringing in $1.8 million. Now we would love to tell you who donated the money, however almost all of it was funneled through ActBlue. Not a lot of transparency.
Claire McCaskill raised $455 thousand through her Missouri “Grassroots” movement. Unfortunately only 38% of her donations over the last month came from Missouri. She also received $157 thousand from ActBlue. Please see our recent article on McCaskill for Missouri. She continues to receive money from donors in Illinois, DC, New York and California. Bernie Sanders also benefited from donors in New York, California and Massachusetts. He only took in $4,729 out of the $266 thousand received from his home state of Vermont.
On the Republican side, the Congressional Leadership Fund ($1.4 million donated) and Wisconsin Next PAC ($525 thousand donated) received the bulk of the donations. The Wisconsin Next PAC supports Leah Vukmir for the US Senate. While almost all of the donations to Wisconsin Next PAC came from Wisconsin, one person donated $500 thousand of the $525 thousand so we cannot call it a "grassroots" movement.
