ActBlue recently distributed $48 million to various Democratic campaigns and PACs. ActBlue calls itself a conduit that provides infrastructure to fund raise online. However, the cynical view is that ActBlue provides a wall between donors and campaigns. If you donate money through ActBlue, it appears as a donation to ActBlue. You must read the actual PDF to see which campaign / PAC the money is earmark for. ActBlue has taken in 30 million donation in 2017 / 2018 making it very difficult to tie the donor to the campaign. So much for transparency.
So who is getting the lion’s share from ActBlue. The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) received $4.8 million, Beto O’Rourke in Texas received $2.6 million, Danny O’Connor in Ohio received $1.2 million, Andrew Janz in California received $881 thousand, Claire McCaskill in Missouri received $730 thousand and Jacky Rosen in Nevada received $705 thousand.
Now we would like to tell you more about the donors, but that is the beauty of ActBlue, we cannot. ActBlue is the middleman that hides the donor profiles. So more than 1,500 PACs and campaigns received $48 million in the last couple of months and we cannot easily tell you where the money came from. To put it simply, that ain’t freedom!!
