Mega-Donors throw money around like normal people give their change to kids. We looked back on 2018 to see who is benefiting from Mega-Donor generosity. With $51 million in donations from Mega-Donors, the Congressional Leadership Fund (CLF) is clearly the winner. Sheldon Adelson and his wife donated $30 million to the CLF, Timothy Mellon gave $10 million and the American Action Network donated $11 million to the CLF. The Congressional Leadership Fund is dedicated to protecting and strengthening the Republican Majority in the House.
Tom Steyer put another $19 million into his PAC, Nextgen Climate Action Committee. It looks like his PAC started with the goal of clean energy, but they have expanded into immigration, healthcare and equality. Women Vote! is next bringing in $13 million from Mega-Donors this year. What is interesting is that Merrill Lynch donated $5.4 million to Women Vote!. We have no issue with Merrill given a lot of money to Women Vote!, but why didn’t they spread it around a more. They could have given a couple million to help the Hispanic vote or the African-American vote.
Unlike the other Mega-Donors, Donald Sussman spreads his money around. He donated $4 million to Priorities USA Action, $2 million to Women Vote!, $3.5 million to the Senate Majority PAC and $3 million to the House Majority PAC. All are Democrat PACs. Aside from his own PAC, Tom Steyer also gave $250 thousand to the Need to Impeach PAC. Need to Impeach has only raised $253 thousand. Maybe Tom can ask for his money back as Maxine Waters has stopped shouting "Impeach 45".
George Soros has donated $10 million this year. His biggest donations went to Priorities USA Action ($5 million) and Win Justice ($3 million).
