On the back of a recent CNBC article highlighting long-distance donors, CNBC Article in the primary elections in Ohio, West Virginia, Indiana and North Carolina, we thought we would look and see where these donors are located. Massachusetts tops the list with 530K in donations over the last couple of months. However, the majority of Massachusetts donations come from ActBlue and good portion of the money given to ActBlue came from California (21%), New York (15%) and Massachusetts (7%) over the same time frame. So the people of Massachusetts are not giving all 530K to these elections. New Yorker and Californians donate to ActBlue which then donated to the different campaigns. Dan McCready benefited the most receiving 400K from MA. He also received 118K directly from California and 74K from New York.
Steve Stivers is another candidate popular outside his home State. Steve received 262K from the District of Columbia and 62K from Virginia. A number of candidates had greater than 10% of their donations come from the District of Columbia. 30% of Richard Ojeda’s donations came from DC and 21% of Conrad Lucas donations were from DC. Interestingly, a good portion of Rupie Phillips donations came from Pennsylvania. We only highlighted candidates that had more out-of-state donations than in-state donations.
