Why are a lot of campaign expenses paid directly to Maxine and Karen Waters....

Maxine Waters does it all. She can build a custom computer. She loans her car to the campaign. She also personally makes and distributes Flyers and Sign Posts. Let’s not forget about her daughter Karen Waters who owns a fleet of walkers and also a U-Haul. When a campaign makes a purchase they fill in the “disbursement description” and then the “recipient name”. Now when most campaigns purchase a computer the recipient is a computer store. In Maxine’s case she is listed as the recipient. She received $2,175 for a computer for headquarters. Did she sell the campaign her old computer or did she build one from scratch. She was also paid $366 for car rental. Doesn’t she use Avis or Hertz?

Over the years, Karen Waters received $6,000 for walkers. We assume these are walkers to assist the elderly. Does Karen just keep them around to help people out. Also Karen was paid $177 for U-Haul Rental. Why wasn’t U-Haul the recipient. Karen was also paid $675 for “Musicians, Comedian for Event”. Was she up on stage telling jokes? These are not huge expenses so why the middle man/women. The whole point of reporting campaign financing is for transparency. The extra step just makes you wonder if those walkers really cost $6,000.

Now of course there is the Slate Mailers. Over the last 8 years, Karen Waters has been paid $297,000 most of it coming from Slate Mailers. She has received $48,000 since last May and the Dailycaller recently reported that she is owed another $65K. A slate mailer is a publication created by a campaign or for-profit consulting service that is mailed to voters. It contains lists of candidates or ballot measures, along with recommendations and endorsements. Slate Mailers appear to be Maxine’s primary campaign strategy and all the money flows to her daughter.

However, it does not look like Maxine wastes her donations on lavish dinners or expense trips. In fact, she gave the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) $700K and listed it as “excess campaign funds”. She may have to give the DCCC a lot more after her recent comments….
